How do you filter a vast amount of information and deliver a breath of fresh air?

American Air Filter International (AAF) is a leader in air filtration solutions, designing, developing, and distributing products and services across a wide range of industries. A global enterprise with international reach, AFF enlisted Flywheel to build a brand-new web solution on the Sitefinity platform. We provided a more efficient and user-friendly alternative to their existing CMS, while also giving them a beautiful redesign and a reimagined architecture, which displayed their products and services in a much more compelling way. We had free reign to collaborate on creating a site from scratch with a new design and functionality, the perfect opportunity to showcase our expertise and the broad capabilities of Sitefinity DX, delivered with the robust, secure, and scalable infrastructure of Sitefinity Cloud.

The customer journey was cumbersome, and the existing site was wordy and hard to navigate.

Understanding the complexities of a large, global enterprise client, we knew that process and communication would matter more than ever. We were told that a well-organized, easy to navigate site would go a long way for AAF. Given the site would have many different users, across many different industries, we determined that detailed product pages with powerful visuals would be most effective. To gather information from our client, we began with a series of interviews. We listened and we heard that the user journey was top of mind. We also captured several stories of inefficiency and struggles using the current web platform. Ultimately, the goal was to ensure that sales reps could share their screen with clients and in two clicks be able to showcase specific products and their specs. The client was looking forward to modernizing their digital infrastructure and engaging our designers to deliver something they could be proud of.

They knew what wasn’t working and we were confident we could remedy that.

With a plan to simplify the user experience while ensuring a flexible and highly secure site that the client could update frequently and easily, we shaped a plan for our design and build. We knew that UI, UX, and IA would all get an impactful lift. It was decided to implement animated 3D renders that would allow the user to navigate each space (i.e. a hospital, school, food and beverage plant) to see what specific products and services could be used in each. We also developed a global map on the homepage, set up as a guided experience, to allow users to fully understand and access the international scope of AFF. The responsive experience also included product detail templates with a specs carousel and industry application information. The workplan was rounded out to add efficiency by directly integrating with other systems in the client’s tech stack. Finally, considerations were included to execute a smooth, successful migration for a website with visitors from around the world.

We rebuilt a visually stunning, highly effective, and efficiently managed site... step by step.

Because of the complexity of the enormous, global reach of the company, the web build for AAF was a carefully considered process, divided into a few phases. There were many approvals required at each phase, as we set out to establish a framework for all their internal structures that would be represented through the site. We created “star pages” which we could showcase to the global team, prior to launching the new site. As we got their approval and heard repeatedly how much they loved the new look and feel, we added more pages and subsections until the full site was complete. Leveraging the Swiftype platform, particular attention was given to enabling a facetted search experience that provided users with a delightful way to discover more content. We also connected Sitefinity with Cloundinary, a digital asset management system, to help AAF deliver brand consistency with ease and at scale.

“Our sales team now has really good quality leads that are actually worth following up on,”

is what we heard when we checked in shortly after the launch. The new site is ensuring the right information is in the right hands, and drastically contributing to the company’s sales efforts. “The UI/UX design was critical as we were coming from a very disjointed site with new products added here and there with no structure,” the client told us. This new site is well organized, clean, and easily searchable. Using interactive graphics and concise text, we arm sales reps and customers with exactly what they need, when they need it. The future of the digital experience for AAF will only get better with Salesforce integration and expanded multi-lingual features available to users around the world.
